Frequently Asked Questions
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural state, safe and pleasant. It is experienced by everyone many times throughout their day. For example, before drifting off to sleep at night, just prior to being fully awake in the morning , when absorbed in a good book or a tv show, gardening or meditation.
Can I be hypnotised?
Any person who has a desire and willingness to be hypnotised and can listen to instructions given can be hypnotised.
How will I feel?
Hypnosis creates a wonderfully relaxed feeling that you will enjoy and look forward to in any future hypnotherapy sessions. Under hypnosis your mind may wander off at times but, importantly, your subconscious mind is always listening to everything that is said.
What if I am having trouble relaxing?
We understand you may experience some anxiety at your initial hypnotherapy session. We will discuss this and allay any fears so that when you are ready to proceed with hypnosis you will be feeling relaxed and looking forward to it.
Will I cluck like a chicken?
We guarantee you will not cluck like a chicken… or any other animal. That is purely hypnosis for TV and Stage.
How do I know if I have been hypnotised?
You may come out of hypnosis feeling that only 15mins has gone by when in fact you’ve been under hypnosis for 30-45mins. You will feel relaxed. You may feel a “weight” has lifted. It all depends on what you have come to change. Over the following hours and days you will notice changes around your presenting issue. For example, change in eating, no anxiety when discussing a previous anxious event, not smoking.
How long is an hypnotherapy session?
A session of hypnosis lasts for 50 – 75 minutes and during that time there will be counselling to discover what changes you would like to make followed by hypnosis to implement those changes.
How many sessions will I need?
This is dependent on your presenting issues and desired outcomes and will be discussed at your first session. Hypnotherapy is very powerful and can work quickly but this is dependent of the individual and their needs.
If a session is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice and not reschedule within 2 weeks then a cancellation fee is charged. If there is a No Show then the full session fee is payable.
What should I expect at my first meeting?
We aim for your experience in our offices to be relaxing and rewarding. We offer a caring and non-judgemental space and we listen.
Expect that your first visit will last between 60 to 75 minutes (thereafter 50 minutes or so). At your first visit we will ask you some questions about your general health and discover your reasons for attending and your desired outcomes. The purpose of the first visit is for us to fully understand your challenges and goals and identify how you may benefit from hypnotherapy at Camberwell Hypnosis. To ensure this we will reiterate your requests and desired outcomes to confirm that we are both “on the same page”.
Att all times you are in full control and may prematurely end a session but it is our experience that our clients want their hypnosis sessions to last longer as they are so relaxing.
All hypnosis is self hypnosis. The power for positive change resides within your own mind. If you choose to accept the suggestions presented, you can rest comfortably knowing that you are the one safely in control of your own positive experience.
